Type Of Cover

Single Trip : Covers you for a once off trip within your selected travel dates.

Multi Trip : Also known as annual travel insurance will cover you for multiple trips within 365 days from your selected start date. Duration of each trip may vary depending on the insurer's criteria.

Backpacker : Also known as long stay travel insurance will cover you for a once off trip, generally with a duration of up to 1 year.

Destination : Territorial limits may vary depending on the insurer. Please note certain regions may not be covered due to conflict, civil or political unrest such as Algeria, Albania, Lebanon, Libya etc. Please refer to the insurer's terms and conditions for full details.

Please note no travel insurance cover will be provided where, prior to your trip commencing, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has advised against all, but essential travel.

Your cover start date should start today unless:

- you have an existing policy that covers you until the cover start date you choose.

- you have yet to book a trip and will only do so on or after the cover start date you choose.

Your cover including cancellation protection ONLY begins from the cover start date you choose. If you choose to start cover today, then your cover begins the moment the insurer confirms your online application back to you.

Who's Travelling

Individual : This option covers an individual travelling alone or as part of a group.

Couple : Two adults aged 18 or over who are in a relationship and who have been residing at the same address for a minimum of 6 months.

Family : Two adults or single parent families with children living at home under 18 years old. Please note the first traveller in a family must be an adult. A maximum of two adults can travel under a family policy. There is generally a limit on the number of children per family. Please add the date of birth of all family members to be included in this policy.

Groups : This option covers individuals travelling together under a single policy.

Criteria may vary depending on the insurer.

Winter Sports : Additional cover for winter related sporting activities such as snowboarding or skiing.

Business : Additional cover for individuals taking a business trip.

Cruise : Additional cover for individuals taking a cruise.

Private Health Insurance

The following criteria apply to all individuals named on the policy. If you have an eligible health insurance policy with inpatient medical treatment abroad of at least €55,000 with Irish Life Health, Laya Healthcare or VHI you may be able to avail of a discount.

Please note; it is your responsibility to make sure that your private health insurance (PHI) covers overseas medical treatment. Check the details on your PHI documentation carefully before to ticking the box below.


The following assumptions apply to all individuals named on the policy:

  • You are a permanent resident in the Republic of Ireland and have been for at least six months.
  • Your trip has not yet started.
  • Your trip must start and end in the Republic of Ireland.
  • You are unaware of any circumstances where your trip may be cut short or cancelled.
  • You are not travelling against medical advice.
  • You are registered with a general practitioner in the Republic of Ireland.
  • You will notify the insurer if you have or have had a pre-existing medical condition. Please note if a medical condition is not disclosed to the insurer, this may affect claims relating to that specific medical condition. See our FAQs for more details.
